Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado<\/em> is a Brazilian photographer who with his wife L\u00e9lia Deluiz Wanick Salgado <\/em>have been planting tree saplings for over twenty years in order to bring a deforested forest in their hometown back to life.<\/p>\n

He’s a prominent photographer and journalist who has traveled all over the world to cover sensitive issues and has been featured in a number of press publications.<\/p>\n

The Trouble Began During The 90s<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sebasti\u00e3o had returned to Brazil from covering the terrible Rwandan genocide when he stumbled upon the jungle which had been completely destroyed.<\/p>\n

It Was Really Sad For Him To See The Once Lush With Wildlife Jungle Now Completely Barren And Deserted <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sebasti\u00e3o was hurt, but he was also determined to do something about it. So along with his wife, he started a twenty-year-old journey to bring the jungle back to life. No matter what.<\/p>\n

The Road To Reversing The Damage Done To The Forest Was A Long One But The Couple Never Gave Up<\/strong><\/p>\n

By the time the people who cut the forest were done. Only 0.5 percent of the actual forest remained. Seeing this, L\u00e9lia came up with the idea to start replanting trees in the area.<\/p>\n

The Couple Left No Stones Unturned To Bring The Forest Back To It’s Former Green Glory<\/strong><\/p>\n

The couple formed an organization Instituto Terra<\/em> which was then tasked to plant a whopping four million tree saplings. The restoration process had begun.<\/p>\n

But Simply Planting Tree Saplings Was Not Gonna Cut It <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sebasti\u00e3o Salgado explained –<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a single being which can transform CO2 to oxygen, which is the tree. We need to replant the forest,\u201d said the photographer. \u201cYou need forest with native trees, and you need to gather the seeds in the same region you plant them or the serpents and the termites won\u2019t come. And if you plant forests that don\u2019t belong, the animals don\u2019t come here and the forest is silent.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

But Sebasti\u00e3o And His Wife Were Determined And Ready<\/strong><\/p>\n

For twenty years the couple and their people worked tirelessly together and brought the forest back to life.<\/p>\n

Even The Wildlife Came Back Home<\/strong><\/p>\n

During those twenty years over 172 species of birds, 33 species of mammals, 293 species of plants and 15 species of reptiles have returned there.<\/p>\n

The Both Of Them Have Proved That Nothing Is Impossible <\/strong><\/p>\n
